Welcome to East New York
EAST NEW YORK occupies a large area of the north eastern section of Brooklyn bordering Queens and includes the communities of Cypress Hills, New Lots and Starrett City. Its housing stock consists of large apartment building complexes, many single and multi-family houses, as well as mixed-use properties. East New York was particularly hit hard with the social upheaval and economic blight of the late 1900s but has remained home to many long-term residents and businesses with strong community ties and organizations. Today, younger families and buyers of all stripes are attracted to the area as price points are a bit lower than its neighbors to the west. Transportation options abound as East New York has one of the only three Brooklyn stops on the Long Island Rail Road and the MTA’s East NY Bus Depot which operates 13 bus lines in Brooklyn. Revitalized green spaces such as the Shirley Chisholm State Park and the Gateway Center mall also provide local options for recreation and shopping.
